Biography
A sociology graduate from Université de Montréal, Alexandre Chabot became Secretary General in 2010. He was a member of the University’s Board of Directors from 1995 to 1998 and has been part of the management team since 1999. He has served as Advisor for Government Affairs, Assistant to the Vice-Rector of Public Affairs and Development, Assistant to the Vice-Rector of Government Affairs, and Chief of Staff to the Rector and Assistant Vice-Rector. From 2007 to 2010, he was Assistant Vice-Rector for Student Services. Alexandre Chabot has served and continues to serve on numerous boards of directors of public and not-for-profit organizations.
Mandate
Along with the Rector, the Secretary General is the only officer who reports to Université de Montréal’s Board of Directors. He is responsible for the operation of university departments and a number of their committees, in addition to being the guardian of the university seal and the co-signatory of degrees. He exercises institutional responsibility under a number of laws; he is responsible for contract rules compliance, organizational information security, access to information and the protection of personal information, disclosures and wrongful acts reporting, and complaints regarding the award of public contracts. He also oversees the crucial Equality, Diversity and Inclusion program, as well as the University’s relations with first peoples. The Secretary General is also responsible for the archives and the enforcement of disciplinary rules.
